Achievements Highlights

1.    CILIC, in 1993 won a case against the Inspector General of  
        Police for barring lawyers visiting their clients while in police  custody.

2.    CILIC conducted civic education and monitored the 1993
       Referendum and the 1994 General Elections without funding. 

3.     CILIC  lobbied government and the general public at  the
        first Malawi Constitutional Conference for establishment
        of the Law Commission,  the Ombudsman,  the National
        Compensation Tribunal, the AntiCorruption Bureau and is
        Still lobbying for the Truth Commission.

4.      CILIC litigated several cases of malpractices and violation       
          of  human  rights.

5.       Documentation of the human rights abuses perpetuated by
          government, political parties, other institutions and            
          individuals.   CILIC interviewed and documented such
          cases for follow-up and monitoring to see to it that social
          justice is done.

6.      CILIC is a member of CONGOMA, and sometimes serves
          on its Board .  Among other Memberships are National
          and NGO  General  Networks, Human Rights Consultative
         Committee, Prison Reform Committee etc.

          At Regional Level, CILIC is a member of SAHRINGON,
          SADC Elections network etc, and do associate inter-
          Nationally with Amnesty International, UN  NGO Forum,
          Commonwealth NGO Conference, and its peoples
          festivals.  Beijing and its follow up conference etc.   

7.       CILIC has spearheaded the formation of a network of Prison Reform    

          Committee (PRC), the publication of the first ever Prison Reform
           Newsletter titled ‘New Hope’ and facilitate through Prison Reform
          Committee, Prison Rehabilitation Programmes through Civic education,    
           prison condition improvement etc.

8.      CILIC has among many Human Rights abuse cases, work on rape cases,
         defilement, incest and has done civic education, counselling, lobbying i.e. 
         judiciary for meaningful sentencing and community service for petty
         offenders.  CILIC formed an APW/CILIC Network for civic education in
         1999 parliamentary and 2000 Local Government Elections to promote women candidates
